HAVE SOME SPACE FOR YOURSELF
What is life? Today is the last day of 2010. One of my young colleagues has come to me. She is younbg- 27 years old. Recenly married. Like most of the newly weds very fond of her husband. In spite of it- today complained her husband was talking so much she did not have time for herself.
When one is in love, they seldom complain the other taking most of their time. Then - again? What is love?
Long back one of my freinds told me rather quoted from My Fair Lady. ....Love is caring. Caring for the feelings of the other. But, that is what that friend of mine promised to his spouse. I would care for you. He was young and handsome and she was equally young and beautiful. At that age he wanted her company ...........perhaps at that time he thought he wants her company forever. The one and only way and the most easy way was proposing a marriage. He might have sincerely thought that it was love and he would take care of her.
But, life does not go as you wish. Once he got her he never bothered to care for her. After 30 years of marraige I have seen her. She lost the charm....the beauty. And above all her enthusiasm in life. She was such a vibrant person. What is this? Does your husband care for you? She smiled wryly......No Yaar! I have been waiting since 30 years for a simple question. Did you have your coffee? Never did he ask. Once I have become his wife..........I ceased to be his friend. I do not find time for anything .......to read, to sing, to listen to music.......so many things which I always wanted to do. I look after the house, children and him.
Where did go wrong? Because, now they do not have any common flatform. They do not read the poetry together. They do not listen to the songs together. They do not go out together. He has his office, his friends and his own set of people as his company. She has a house and two children to look after. He does not allow her into his company. She would not find time for herself.
There may be couples who enjoy companionship even after 50 years of marriage. But, alas! my friend did not fall into that category.
After few months I heard she died in her sleep. I simply wish that she would be doing in the other world whatever she wanted to do here on earth and in her next life ( if at all she has one) she would not marry a person who brought her home and chained her to house.
